SOME OF OUR FAVORITE PLACES IN THE DALLAS AREA

Dallas TX has wonderful options for downsizers, seniors, and empty nesters of all ages.

Dallas is a great place to live, with its arts and culture, museums, attractions, and history. Dallas is also home to several major medical centers – such as UT Southwestern Medical Center, Baylor University Medical Center, and Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas – as well as six professional sports teams — NFL Dallas Cowboys,NBA Dallas Mavericks, NHL Dallas Stars, WNBA Dallas Wings, MLS FC Dallas, and MLB Texas Rangers.

Dallas

Dallas will forever have a place in history as the place where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. You can visit the JFK Memorial Plaza and The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza. Dallas is also home to the George W. Bush Presidential Center. Attractions include the Dallas Museum of Art, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, the Dallas Zoo, the Dallas World Aquarium, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, and the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. For good eats, head to Invasion, Haciendas Kitchen, or Petra and the Beast.

North Dallas

The North Dallas neighborhood, which includes Far North Dallas and Lake Highlands, is where you can spend time outdoors at the area’s many parks or venture indoors for world-class galleries and museums, such as the Valley House Gallery, the Museum of Biblical Art, the Mary Kay Museum, and the Cavanaugh Flight Museum. When you’re hungry, you’ll want to check out Maple Leaf Diner or Kenny’s Wood Fired Grill.

Frisco

Frisco is home to the National Soccer Hall of Fame as well as the National Videogame Museum. For some eclectic art, head to Barney Smith’s Toilet Seat Art Museum. For some fresh air, head to Arbor Hills Nature Preserve or if you don’t want to get out of the car, visit the beautiful Karya Siddhi Hanuman Temple. For some local food, you can enjoy the food at Platia Greek Kouzina or Babe’s Chicken Dinner House.

McKinney

McKinney is a great place to enjoy history at the Collin County History Museum, Chestnut Square Historic Village, or in Historic Downtown McKinney. Take the kids to Celebration Park or go for a walk in the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary. For dinner and a show, head to Koji Sushi, Harvest, or Hugs Café then take in a show at the Heard-Craig Center for the Arts.

Plano

In Plano there is plenty to do with the family, from the Crayola Experience Plano, the Windhaven Meadows Park, and Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve, to Heritage Farmstead Museum and Dark Hour Haunted House. For some local fare, you’ll want to check out Ye Ole Butcher Shop or CraftWay Kitchen.

Lewisville

Being right on Lewisville Lake, it will come as no surprise that Lewisville is a great place for the outdoors with the LLELA Nature Preserve, Central Park, Lake Park, and the Old Town Aquatic Park. For some great restaurants there are Sullivan Old Town BBQ, Hotsome Chicken, and Big Jacks BBQ.

Denton

Are you a fashionista? If so, you’ll want to make an appointment to visit the Texas Fashion Collection at the University of North Texas. For some eclectic art, check out the Chairy Orchard, a vacant lot decorated with chairs. For some history and architecture, you’ll want to visit the Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square Museum. If it’s a day with the kids, head over to South Lakes Park or the Denton Children’s Museum for a rainy day. When your stomach starts growling, check out Boca 31 or Feta’s Lone Greek.

Flower Mound

Flower Mound’s biggest draw is that it is situated along the northern shore of Grapevine Lake where there are tons of trails, such as the Knob Hills Bike Trail and the North Shore Trail. A couple of other great parks to visit are Heritage Park and Stone Creek Park. After you’ve worked up an appetite, enjoy some great food at Makarsee Market and Wine or Alma Mexicana Restaurante.
